The Story Behind
Young & Norgate

Our Founders

Dave Young and Ross Norgate met at the world-renowned Rowden Atelier Fine Woodworking School, where a shared belief in design, detail, and craftsmanship set the foundations for Young & Norgate.

They began in a small Devon workshop, launching their first furniture collection in 2010, a body of work that went on to receive Design Guild Marks, a Bespoke Guild Mark, and the Claxton Stevens Prize. As their reputation grew, so did the scale of their projects, evolving from individual pieces to full interior commissions.

Now based in Bristol, the studio continues to be shaped by Dave and Ross’s commitment to thoughtful design, exceptional making, and enduring quality.

Together, they’ve built a studio where craftsmanship and design work hand in hand to create lasting spaces.

Ross Norgate

Ross draws on his foundation as a time honoured craftsman to lead Young & Norgate with a focus on quality, clarity, and continuous improvement. His role centres on guiding the business, shaping project direction, and ensuring the studio’s values are reflected in every piece produced.

“We started out simply wanting to design and make things well: pieces that had honesty, attention to detail, and purpose. Over time, that same ethos has shaped everything we do, from the way we design to the way we run the workshop.”
